Councillor Mike Benson

 Councillor Mike Benson

I was elected to Sandbach Town Council in May 2011 and again in 2015.

My main purpose in becoming a Councillor was to work on projects in support of the community. During this period I have served as Chairman of the Community and Environment Committee and provided a Lead role in a number of working groups concerned with community projects. The Events Group has provided several Concerts and Fun Days, including other activities to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and 90th Birthday Celebrations. The Tidy Town Group has initiated and supported improvements in the appearance of the Parish, working with several community and environmental groups. The Group entered the Cheshire Community Pride Competition winning the Best Market Town Award in 2013, 2014, 2015 & 2016, including the Championship Award for Cheshire in 2014, as well as several other awards for Sandbach Park.

I was actively involved in preparing the Sandbach Neighbourhood Development Plan in 2016, a major project taking forward many important proposed policies to support views expressed by the community on key land-based issues affecting Sandbach. I am the Lead Member of the Working Group, which continues to review and keep a ‘watching brief’ on planning issues likely to impact on the effectiveness of the Neighbourhood Plan.
