Cycling

Cycling in Sandbach

The South East Cheshire Cycle Action Group has produced this map to encourage more people to cycle for everyday purposes in and around the five towns of Alsager, Congleton, Holmes Chapel, Middlewich and Sandbach.

The maps are intended for cyclists and potential cyclists to indicate possible routes that might be preferable to using main roads, and to indicate potential hazards and discontinuities in the routes. They should not be taken as indicating the presence of an official route, of cycle-friendly infrastructure or a safe route. Any use that implies otherwise is prohibited.

Strategic Cycle Routes for Sandbach

Last year, 2017, Sandbach Town Council recognised the need to produce a Town Cycling Plan. To this end, a working group was set up, consisting of a small group of residents and councillors.

The Town Cycling Plan was duly produced and approved by Council in February this year. On presenting the document to Cheshire East Council, we were made aware of the impending Local Transport Plan Consultation, taking place in May and June of 2018. We were advised to select five strategic routes from the Town Cycling Plan, and submit them in a format to fit the template used by Cheshire East, supported by statistics on employment, education, modes of travel etc.

A document entitled “Strategic Routes for Sandbach” was produced as a supplement to the Town Cycling Plan. This too has been approved by Sandbach Town Council and submitted to Cheshire East for consideration within the consultation.

The Town Cycling Plan and Strategic Cycle Routes documents can be found here. The routes selected are numbered 1 to 5 in the plan below.

Whilst the “Strategic Routes” document is specifically aimed at the Local Transport Plan, the Town Cycling Plan remains as a “live” entity, containing numerous minor improvements as well as aspirational innovations, such as a safe route connecting Sandbach to Congleton.
