Additional Defibrillators in Sandbach

Following a proposal from Councillor John Beddows, Sandbach Town Council agreed to fund a project to ensure that there is a defibrillator in every ward, meaning wider access for this lifesaving equipment.

Although the Town Council has previously provided defibrillators in the Town Centre, Cllr Beddows was keen to ensure that the Council provided a similar essential facility to residents across all wards.

As a result, the Council provided £5,000 of its budget for the purchase and installation of an additional 4 defibrillators, and the relocation of one of those in the town centre, for a more even distribution.

Councillor Beddows has worked with the Council team, local businesses and local organisations to determine where the new defibrillators are best located, and the first was installed recently outside the One Stop Shop on Price Avenue.

Cllr Laura Crane, Sandbach Town Council Mayor, said ‘I am delighted to see the successful installation of the first of the new defibrillators, funded by the Town Council, and installed working in partnership with our community – it is just another great example of what we can achieve when we join forces. I would like to thank the One Stop Shop, and the other organisations involved in this project, for their help to make it happen’

Cllr Beddows said ‘I am so pleased that my suggestion to spread out our resources was welcomed by the Council and the community – look out for the next phases of this project where we plan to install a defibrillator in the remaining wards over the next few months.’

All defibrillators must be registered on the National Database coordinated by British Heart Foundation to enable them to be activated, and those provided by the Council are checked routinely by the Council ranger.
