Small Common

The Town Council is pleased to announce that the Small Common Car Park was re opened for public use on Monday 21st August, ahead of the original scheduled date of 1st September. The completed refurbishment delivers a safer, smarter, and fresher look for this central part of the town, which now has a high spec tarmac finish, new drain system, bollards to improve public safety, a small bike rack, bench, and decorative planters. Cllr Hegarty, who is the Chair of the Small Common Sub Committee which led on this project, said ‘I would like to thank project managers Currie & Brown, Contractors Cumberbirch, our own Assets & Public Realm Manager Neil Pepper and all the other members and staff who have worked hard to make this happen.

The Town Mayor added “it is wonderful to see such a great result after all the hard work to deliver this project through some challenging times. This is one part of the Council’s wider capital asset strategy to improve and deliver the assets which the Town Council took over from the Borough”

The outdoor market traders will return to the small common from 31 August and the Council hopes that some will also remain and thrive on the Cobbles to extend the current market through the town centre, based on their successful trading experience of the past few weeks. Our thanks go to the traders, and the public, for their co-operation during this time while the car park has been closed.
